Terence Turkey

Terence Turkey of the anti-christmas Martyrs Brigade

Said he couldn't wait for the table to be laid.

He was first in his flock to head to Norfolk to train:

Assault courses, cracker detonation, tonnes of grain.

With a proud breast he'd brag and boast

That he was the one; the deadliest roast.

But right before battle he was taken by surprise.

An electric knife took off his thighs.

He tried flicking gravy and even a stray giblet.

Then tried to distract ...

Christmas in Alice's Winter Wonderland

The oysters struggled through sleet and snow

To catch the Walrus and Carpenter’s glow

To the frosty pole hand in hand

To meet with Alice in her winter wonderland

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee

Are restful by the fire with glee

Tricked their way to this snowy delight

Without catching foul frostbite

The mad hatter sits at the table

Enjoying guest’s jokes and fables

Pulling crackers filled with riddles

Sipping sherry ...

Post Christmas poem

Christmas time has been and gone

All done for another year

Everyone is looking forward to a fresh start

Full of hope and cheer

Time to reflect on what’s been and done

And resolutions and hope to adhere

The decorations come down

No more sparkle and shine

Mistletoe or mulled wine

A travesty.

Excitement awake! Surprise lies ahead

For all asleep cuddled cosey in bed.

Brazen branches adorned, protect the prize,

A years worth of goodness, gaze with wide eyes.

Excitement awake! Surprise lies ahead.

The turkey still clucking soon will be fed

To all who wait clutching fork, spoon and knife,

Expecting full bellies after much strife.

Excitement awake! Surprise lies ahead,

Brother home along the road he was led.

We shriek, we scream, what a surprise he's here!

I dosed off by the fire

Too much Lagavulin

I'd slowly started to tire

Resorting instead to drooling

I opened my mind's eye

And found myself in Woolworths

It was shortly going to die

And so spoke its final words

"I've got little left for you

Unless you'd care for a shelf

But HMV has a queue

So it must have something to sell"

HMV was confusing

The same song three times

I was in the middle of choosing

When I awoke and opened my eyes

I remember Santa’s Sleigh

The jingling ring and the heavy hooves

As winter wind wisps

And sleeping babes lie.

I remember the sounds

Squealing, screeching screams of joy

As Dad’s life their heads

And sleeping eyes wake.

I remember the kitchen

The clattering of pots and pans

And of golden mince pies

As hungry hands grope.

I remember the peace

Turkey tired and tipsy

Clambering between blankets

And asleep.

Christmas Tree

It graces the room,

Resplendent and majestic

Voluptuous, vivacious

Its presence brings delight.

Baubles adorn every branch,

Like glistening, shiny fruit

Of gold and silver.

There are tasty treats to unwrap

Crackers to pull

And bright red bows which

Dance around like smiles.

Pretty parcels compete at the foot

Disguised shapes

Veiling their secrets

In Paper and boxes

Fastened with ribbons.

At twilight, more beauty ...

Last Christmas on saviour’s day,

just the once in royal David’s city.

I’d just taken a sleigh ride with lots of those jingle bells,

and oddly a reindeer called Rudolf think he had a red nose.

The driver said 'have a wonderful Christmastime and then something about Santa’s baby?

Or was it little saint Nick?

A mixture of mistletoe and wine had left me thinking it was a wonderful time of year,

I felt like I was walking in the air,

I wished him ‘peace on earth’ ...
